"The volunteers are truly a blessing to the children. Their time is very much appreciated....I hope it gives them great joy to know that they have made such a difference in a child's life."
Danelle Burch
The groups at Healing House are conducted by volunteer facilitators who are trained to observe, listen, and respond to children who are grieving. A facilitator is not a counselor, but serves as a caring companion in a children or parent group.
Facilitators assist: they do not direct. They follow, they do not lead.
Facilitators must be 21 years of age and be willing to commit to two evenings a month during the school year. Volunteer training is offered twice a year, usually in August and February and is conducted over a three-day period.
Trainees must attend all three training sessions.
There are several ways to get involved, and make a difference!
- Children support group facilitator
- Adult support group facilitator
- Clerical & office volunteer
- Fundraising and grant writing
- Board of Directors
- Advisory Council
Healing House would welcome the assistance of any service organizations to participate in special group projects throughout the year. For example, each summer we organize a group to help with "Operation Clean Sweep" to assist the staff in preparing for the upcoming year.
